Consumer confidence slips into caution zone, research finds

Macau consumers have begun to grow cautious, the latest consumer confidence index compiled by the Macau University of Science and Technology shows.
The third-quarter index stands at 99.33 overall, down by 2.38, or about 2.34 per cent, from 101.71 a quarter earlier.
The university says that this drop marks a shift from a range of optimism to a ‘phase of caution’.
Of the six sub-indices, only two display a rise, with the remainder sliding.
The one for housing went up by 2.7 per cent from 99.29 to 101.99 – a level considered to be ‘optimistic’.
There was also a slight increase in the index for the domestic economy, from 93.61 to 94.14.
When it comes to stock investment, the index stands at 112.4, down by 3.26 per cent from 116.2 in the second quarter.
